TruBlu Farms lamb is grown right here in South Carolina in a humane atmosphere. Our pasture raised lambs forage on fresh grass daily---even in winter. Our animals are not given any antibiotics for growth and are fed TruBlu Farms’ own Tifton 85 and Coastal Bermuda Hay, if necessary. Like our cattle, TruBlu Farms sheep and lambs are rotationally grazed and live freely in a safe environment that is monitored daily.
TruBlu Farms’ Katahdin lamb meat is very mild compared to the traditional taste of the wool sheep breeds. This balanced and mild flavor is due in part to less lanolin or wool fat. Since Katahdins are hair sheep, they have less wool and the body produces less lanolin. Lamb is Lean
On average, a 3-ounce serving of lamb has only 175 calories and meets the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) definition for lean. According to FDA guidelines, lean meat has less than 10 grams of fat, less than 4.5 grams of saturated fat, and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol per 100 grams (or 3.5 ounces). Three ounces of lamb can easily fit within the daily fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol recommendations of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
